New Poetry Books: Want to Help Pick My Next Cover?

Over the last few weeks, we've had a lot going on in the world. I hope you all are staying safe and healthy! I'm sure adjusting to working from home, helping your kiddos with schoolwork, and trying to find some peace and quiet has been strenuous, some of you might be looking at your bookshelves and checking out your online ebooks. Writing has been difficult of late with so many things occurring in my world including the start of a new job, the loss of my father, and now COVID-19. As I've attempted to readjust to what's happening in the world myself, I've been trying to take more time, recently, to read and write. I've found some amazing Indie authors: Julia Ash , Ami J. Sanghvi , J. Clark , J.D. Hart , and a new one by Shannon Greenland . Such great writers, and such a lovely way to pass the time! My writing time has included working on my three poetry books and second Christian Historical book in my The Four Chronicles series. It's been rewarding and in

As a reader, and writer, I'm eclectic in what I pick up. At the time, it has to match my mood, so to speak. I've found, lately, that I've been drawn more toward poetry throughout the last year or so. I think it reverts to my own poetry writing but stems, also, from my time reading poetry while writing my first Christian Fiction book,  The Battle . Two of my main characters had a love of poetry, and it brought a foundation to their relationship.  When I was looking for new reads, I requested my Twitter Writing Community to share their works with me. Several did, and from these lovely Indie Authors, I picked several books that looked like ones I would be interested in reading and added them to my Goodreads shelf. So far, I've read a few of them and shared my reviews on previous blogs ( Julia Ash , J.D. Hart , Claire Buss , Lester Eugene Mayer , Timothy Hammer , Ami J. Sanghvi to name a few). That's when I was introduced to this author: J. Clark.  Author J. Cl

Poetry can be so insightful into the author's daily life and experiences. Often, it is a subjective beast, where the reader can come from the meeting with a new perspective, fresh sense of adventure, crippling feelings, or an unknown depth of understanding. There are times when poetry might seem simple in its telling or hold a fountain of knowledge that can never fully be expunged. Either way, this literary expression is a short comprehension of symbolism, realism, and distinctive voice filled with emotions.  For me, poetry is a form of escape . It helps me to write what I can't contain within myself any longer. It's a way to put scenes of my life into words, but also, it's a way to shape dreams and hopes. In this sense, I have found it difficult to judge poetry, except on terms of how it makes me feel and how I accept those emotions.  With Lester Eugene Mayers's 100 Poems for 100 Voices , I was overwhelmed by the impact of his written word. It was hard to rela

The One and Only (The ELI Chronicles) by Julia Ash

I'm not the type to read books about zombies. It's never  been my go-to horror genre. In fact, you might recall from my previous blog post review of Peripheral Vision by Timothy Hammer and Courtney Zito that horror isn't a genre I subscribe to at all. As I've gotten older, I've shied away from post-apocalyptic worlds, dystopians, and most fantasy or sci-fi novels. I've gotten into a reading rut that features self-help, WWII, poetry, and mysteries.  Therefore, I've cultivated some lovely new author friends such as Riley Sager , Joy Harjo , Claire Buss , Truman Capote , Carrie Goldberg , Thomas Erickson , and more. This doesn't mean that I'll never go back to reading other genres, like I have before, but it feels as if I'm taking a break from them to some degree.  So, when looking for some new books, and more importantly, some new Indie Authors to support, I tumbled across this author: Julia Ash . She has a series - The ELI Chronicles, which p
